GSIM

Gemini simulator, gsim, is the next-generation multi-threaded circuit simulator.
Parallel circuit simulation requirements were considered from the ground up in
gsim development, as well as the capability to simulate million-device circuit
with full Spice accuracy. As a result, gsim is the first parallel Spice simulator
that really works. Gsim has the following advantages:

  • Spice accuracy
  • robust simulation convergence
  • parallel speedup on shared-memory multi-processor and  multi-core
    computers
  • serial speedup for all almost all types of circuits, from circuits with 10-
    20 transistors to million-device SOCs

It is our primary objective to make gsim a faster simulator with full Spice
accuracy. Simulation speedup is achieved through technology innovation and
best practice in the following areas:

  • modern circuit simulator architecture
  • efficient multi-threading technology
  • efficient serial and parallel circuit matrix solver
  • efficient serial and parallel device model evaluation
  • accurate parallel multi-rate circuit simulation algorithm

For tough circuit matrices, gsim matrix solver provides orders of magnitude
speedup that includes both serial and parallel speedup. As a result, on 4-core
computers, gsim can achieve 100x faster speedup over other simulators in
simulating big post-layout circuit, power grid, package model, etc. Gsim can
simulate circuits with a large number of resistors and inductors.

Unlike traditional FastMOS* simulators that trade accuracy for speed. gsim is
as accurate as traditional Spice simulators. Gsim achieved 3x - 100x speedup
through technology innovation in every component of circuit simulation, from
simulation algorithm to device modeling. Gsim achieves simulation speedup
for circuits with all types of transistors, not just MOSFETS. In fact, Gsim can
achieve significant speedup for VBIC device model.


* FastMOS simulators sometimes are called FastSpice simulators. But the fact
is that these simulators can only provide speedup for circuits with MOSFETS
besides trading accuracy for speed.
